New York City Department of Transportation — The agency will conduct a left-turn traffic calming pilot program as well as install 500 leading pedestrian intervals in 2016.
New Haven — The city received a $20 million TIGER grant for the third phase of its Downtown Crossing project to reconnect downtown streets with the Hill neighborhood, which is currently cut off by Route 34.
Westchester bus riders — Westchester County legislators approved a $9.98 million plan to buy 33 new hybrid buses for its busiest routes.
Motivate — The next Citi Bike expansion phase is underway, with 121 new stations up to 110th Street in Manhattan and between Red Hook and Prospect Park in Brooklyn.
LOSERS
New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, Senate President Stephen Sweeney and Assembly Speaker Vincent Prieto — Another week, and still no solution to the transportation funding crisis.
Newington (CT) Zoning Commission — The commission extended a moratorium on “high-density housing” around the Newington Junction CTfastrak station.
Buffalo Common Council — The Council approved a $5,000 yearly car allowance for Councilmembers’ own private vehicles. The allowance was previously cut in 2002 as a budget-saving measure.
The planet — 2015 brought record high air and ocean temperatures, sea levels and atmospheric carbon dioxide. And 2016 isn’t shaping up to be much better.
