This Sunday, May 4, Tri-State Transportation Campaign, along with People Friendly Stamford, the Interfaith Council of Southwestern Connecticut and the Stamford Downtown Special Services District, will lead a walk in Downtown Stamford.
The walk, which will begin at 3 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Park on Atlantic Street, is intended as a “walking conversation” about Stamford and its streets. For participants who are so inclined, members of the Interfaith Council will also stop along the route for blessings from different religious traditions. The walk’s organizers will continue the conversation after the walk at Bar Rosso, ¼-mile north of Veterans Memorial Park.
Sunday’s walk is being presented as part of the international Jane’s Walk festival, a global movement of free, locally-led walks inspired by author and urban activist Jane Jacobs. Between May 2 and 4, Thousands of people around the world will come together to walk, learn about their cities, connect with their neighbors and share ideas on how to tackle community challenges and solve problems.
Good luck! Stamford is one of the least friendly places for pedestrians I’ve ever seen. You need wider sidewalks, slower speed limits and perhaps a circulator bus or two to connect the neighborhoods damaged by that open wound that is I-95.
