The Suffolk County Department of Public Works will hold public hearings in March to consider a fare increase on Suffolk County Accessible Transportation (SCAT) buses. Depending on the outcome of these hearings, the one-way fare on SCAT buses would increase to $4 from the current fare of $3. If adopted, the increase will take effect on May 1.
Hearings will be held on Wednesday, March 6, 3-7 p.m. at the W.H. Rogers Legislature Building in Smithtown and on Thursday, March 7, 3-7 p.m. at the Evans K. Griffing Building in Riverhead.
Those interested in making public comments on the proposed fare increases in-person are encouraged to pre-register by mail prior to the hearing (those who are pre-registered will be heard first). Registrations should be sent to Garry Lenberger, Acting Director of Transportation Operations, Suffolk County DPW, Division of Transportation, 335 Yaphank Avenue, Yaphank, New York 11980-9744.
