Last week, Connecticut Governor Dannel P. Malloy announced the five members of an advisory group that will assist ConnDOT in looking over proposals for the redevelopment of the Stamford Transportation Center. ConnDOT is reviewing bids to bring transit-oriented development and expanded parking to the site.
The advisory group’s members, who were recommended by Malloy, are familiar with Stamford’s commuting needs and business climate, and were nominated in part because of their personal commuting experience. Malloy is better qualified than most to find candidates, given that the Stamford native served as the city’s mayor from 1995-2009, and he recognizes that the project is important to both Stamford and the state of Connecticut as a whole: “Whatever decision is made by the commissioner on the redevelopment of the Stamford Transportation Center parking garage site, it needs to reflect both the state’s long-term transportation goals as well as the city’s and commuting public’s priorities,” he said in a statement.
The group consists of: Stamford Office of Economic Development Director Laure Aubuchon, New Canaan Advisors founder Curtis Battles (New Canaan Advisors is a real estate advising firm), Connecticut Rail Commuter Council member David Hendricks, Business Council of Fairfield County Vice President of Public Policy and Programs Joseph McGee, and Stamford Board of Representatives President and Deputy Mayor Randall Skigen.
