This coming Monday, May 16th, there will be a Transportation Equity Town Hall at The Warehouse in Syracuse, 6-9 PM. Hosted by Syracuse First, a non-profit network of locally-owned, independent businesses and organizations dedicated to building a sustainable community, the event will include a presentation and roundtable with ATU Local 580, Syracuse First and members of the New York State Transportation Equity Alliance, a coalition of over 75 groups across New York State working to reform federal and state transportation policy.
Like other cities, Syracuse is struggling amidst the worst transit crisis in decades. CENTRO, which provides public bus service for Syracuse and Onondaga County, just implemented a fare increase and route changes in order to close a $4.8M gap in its $60 million operating budget. The forum will address how federal and state transportation policy impacts riders in Syracuse, with a particular focus on how citizens and groups can shape these federal and state policies to create faster, cleaner, safer, healthier and more equitable transportation choices for all New Yorkers.
The Warehouse is located at 350 West Fayette Street. Food and drink will be served. For more information, contact James Burke at WE ACT, burke@weact.org, (212) 961-1000 ext. 312.
