Save the Date: Tri-State’s Annual Benefit is November 11!

Please save the date for the Tri-State Transportation Campaign’s 2010 Annual Benefit, the evening of November 11 in Manhattan. We will be honoring U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand and the Empire State Transportation Alliance.

Sen. Gillibrand (invited) is the junior senator from New York. She has become a leader in connecting transportation, land use, public health and environmental issues, using her role as a member of the Environment and Public Works Committee to champion improved public transportation and safer streets for bicycling and walking.

The Empire State Transportation Alliance is a coalition of business, civic, labor and environmental organizations that has been a leading voice for essential investment in the country’s largest transit system. Since 1999, ESTA has launched countless advocacy campaigns that have led to billions of dollars in transit investments in the Region. Bob Yaro of Regional Plan Association and Kevin Corbett of AECOM will accept the award.

Over the last year, TSTC has helped win support for Connecticut’s New Haven-Springfield Rail Line and Hartford-New Britain Busway, and been out front for the Access to the Region’s Core rail tunnel and Long Island Bus riders. Our legislative advocacy and analysis helped win New York City’s first-ever bus lane enforcement cameras, and put a Connecticut vulnerable users bill and New York complete streets bill near the top of the agenda in those states’ respective legislatures, although neither passed this year.

Tri-State has injected its voice into the national transportation reform discussion and is helping build an unprecedented New York-wide coalition as a steering committee member of the NY State Transportation Equity Alliance. We continue to get politicians on the record through the NY Transportation Survey and Connecticut transportation questionnaires, and we are informing more people than ever: Readership of Mobilizing the Region continues to grow; in fact, September was MTR‘s busiest-ever month in terms of web traffic.

Please join us and help support our work! You can learn more about the Annual Benefit and purchase tickets, sponsorship packages, and journal ads at our website. Paper invitations will be in the mail shortly.
