Last week, the Port Authority overhauled its website, making it clearer and easier to navigate. One new feature that will benefit commuters and anyone who must use the often-confusing PA Bus Terminal is an online bus route finder. Simply select the desired destination from a list, and the route finder shows the carriers that offer service to and from that location.
Readers of MTR will remember that the Tri-State Transportation Campaign called on the Port Authority to create such a tool in a May report, Express Route to Better Bus Service, that examined ways to improve cross-Hudson and intracity bus transit. As a companion to the report, TSTC built a demonstration website to show how a route finder might function. At the time, the PA’s website included only a list of the carriers using its terminal, without any information on their service areas.
Kudos to the Port Authority for a customer service improvement that will give bus riders a less stressful travel experience. Hopefully, progress on the other recommendations in Express Route — including more space for buses through the Lincoln Tunnel in the morning and evening rush hours — is on the way.
