Nearly ten years have passed since regional planning and transportation organizations and community groups in the South Bronx began their campaign to replace the 1.25-mile Sheridan Expressway with 28 acres worth of affordable housing, green space, bike paths, and new economic development opportunities. The Southern Bronx River Watershed Alliance, of which Tri-State is a member, is closer than ever to making the community’s vision for the Sheridan’s future a reality… but it needs your help! Let officials in Albany know that it’s time to Swap the Sheridan. Fill out the campaign Letter of Support and return it to:
Philip Silva, Southern Bronx River Watershed Alliance Coordinator, 890 Garrison Avenue, 4th Floor, Bronx NY 10474.
For more information on the campaign, visit www.southbronxvision.org. For the latest updates, check the Sheridan Swap blog.
It is long past time to tear down the Sheridan!
Kyle,
Here is the solution : you buy mobile homes, with them you create a massive gridlock on the Sheridan, mobile homes are parked, The Sheridan is at full capacity all the time ( DOT happy) affordable housing cost less and they have a view
that’s called repurposing infrastructure… and the Sheridan really looks like Le corbusier’s la cite du soleil… cool architecture …
Just do it ..
I printed this letter out to mail to them, but I think they would do a lot better with an on-line petition. My guess is that 80% of the people who would sign on-line will not take the extra trouble of printing and mailing a letter. An on-line petition could get them a good email list to send alerts to.
Why keep it? Its just costing money to maintain it, and for what? No one uses it. Its time the City gets its act together and rip it out. Let’s think about the people of the Bronx for a change. We need more parks, and access to the Bronx River would be great.
