Sunday Bus Service Sees a Surge in Ridership in Suffolk County

Sunday ridership is up drastically on Suffolk County buses.
Sunday ridership has increased dramatically on Suffolk County buses.

The addition of Sunday bus service on two summer East End routes in Suffolk County is already proving to be a good investment according to recent ridership data released by Suffolk County Legislator Jay Schneiderman. Schneiderman, the chief architect behind Suffolk County’s Sunday bus pilot program and the Suffolk County Legislature’s most recent vote in support of broader expansion of Sunday service, unveiled data that shows an apparent 50 percent increase in ridership on certain Sundays.

The newly released data emphasizes the need to move quickly to expand Sunday and evening service to other areas of Suffolk County. The County is currently awaiting a response to its Job Access Reverse Commute (JARC) application — expected in early July — to determine the level of service it can provide with additional federal dollars and a portion of greater State funding it received in this year’s State budget. If the JARC application is successful, the County will have $2.1 million to use for expanded bus service. The Suffolk County Department of Public Works is currently developing an expansion plan.

What will this expansion plan include? Do you know how they plan to use the 2.1 million, should they get it?

Try increasing R22 (10K). The larger you make it the more gain (and distortion) you’ll get out of the boost stage.
