Manhattan District Attorney Cy Vance became just the latest public official to endorse speed cameras as a traffic safety tool, but there’s even bigger news today: Senate Co-Leader Jeffrey Klein introduced a “same as” bill in the Senate that matches Assemblywoman Deborah Glick’s bill. This new development is another positive step on the path to passage.
While the provision for a speed camera demonstration program didn’t make it into the budget, there is still time in the legislative session for a pilot program to be endorsed by the New York State Legislature and Governor Cuomo. With that in mind, we decided to outline, with help from our friends at Transportation Alternatives, how broad support for this pilot program is in New York City. The list below of over 100 elected officials, organizations and other supporters is far from comprehensive, and we hope it continues to grow in the days and weeks to come.

What entity sets the speed limits and on what basis? What entity collects the revenue? There is great potential for fraud and enrichment of camera companies?
What are the studies showing that speed cameras reduced accidents? What entity conducted the studies and did the camera companies pay for them?

Assemblyman Lentol is also VERY supportive. Speeding along McGuinness boulevard is notorious.

Don’t be a troll, dude, get your Internet search on or just read the news. They’re well proven to drastically reduce speeding and save lives.
And I don’t have a problem with speeding drivers who mangle and kill people getting a ticket for doing it. Do you?
Assemblyman Lentol is great on this issue, gotta agree, he’s been a big supporter of slowing down traffic in our neighborhood.
Assembly Member Lentol has been supportive of the concept but isn’t currently a sponsor of the bill http://assembly.state.ny.us/leg/?bn=+4327 Please call and write him and ask him to become a sponsor of A04327
This issue is as dead as a horse in a glue factory. Those still asking questions about the technology and its effectiveness are living in 1995. It is proven. It is effective. Done and done.
Pass this thing! Do it tomorrow!
