Connecticut Governor Dannel P. Malloy directed a portion of federal CMAQ funds to bike projects in Bridgeport | Photo: governor.ct.gov

Connecticut Governor Dannel P. Malloy—Last week, Governor Malloy’s administration directed some of its federal Congestion and Air Quality Mitigation Improvement Program (CMAQ) funds towards bike projects in Bridgeport, including bike share seed money.

Hackensack, New Jersey—Months after the approval of Hackensack’s revitalization plan, the city has passed a complete streets policy.

Corona, Queens students—Students at a school in Corona, working in collaboration with Groundswell, recently painted a mural that discourages dangerous driving.

Losers

New York City Department of Finance—Despite a 2010 law substantially increasing the penalty for truckers that spend the night parked on neighborhood streets, the New York City Department of Finance hasn’t updated parking tickets to reflect the bigger fine, according to DNAinfo. Even without updated tickets, the Bronx’s 45th precinct recently cracked down on the scofflaw truckers.

Queens wrong way drivers—In Sunnyside, drivers are reportedly fond of travelling the wrong direction on one-way 39th Street in order to avoid LIE traffic. NYCDOT is taking action to fix the problem.

Washington Township, Gloucester County, New Jersey students—A financial tangle has paralyzed the Washington Township Board of Education’s effort to set a roadside sidewalk farther away from a 45-mph road near Bunker Hill Middle School. Regardless of the financial details, students will continue to lose out until the town finds a way to replace the sidewalk.
