Rally To Save Westchester-Manhattan Express Bus Is In Works

The BxM4C.

Supporters of Westchester County’s BxM4C Bee-Line express bus to Manhattan, which will be canceled in June under a cost-cutting plan proposed by County Executive Rob Astorino, are holding an organizing session today to discuss a planned rally and other ways to fight the plan. The session begins at 7 pm at the Grinton I. Will Branch of the Yonkers Public Library at 1500 Central Ave., Yonkers.

The session is being organized by the “Citizens Committee to Save the NY-Westchester Express Bus Service,” a grassroots group of BxM4C riders led by Virginia Sheahan of Yonkers that has gained additional support from Greenburgh Supervisor Paul Feiner and the Transport Workers Union. County legislators have also come out for the bus, with Westchester County Board of Legislators Chairman Ken Jenkins saying it is important to maintain some level of service on the route.

The Westchester County DOT will hold a public hearing on the BxM4C cancellation and other planned cuts on April 14 at the County Center in White Plains.

Wouldn’t it be a better expenditure to integrate the bus service with Metro-North so that the train can be used for the trunk run? Buses are more expensive to operate than trains and operating a money losing premium service doesn’t make sense.

Anyone know how to contact Astorino by phone? no number listed on the county’s website. if anyone knows please post it.

I’m outraged by this attempt of the government to make it harder for people to earn a living in NYC and get to work there. Astorino you vowed to bring down taxes and said u were frustrated by the many who fled westchester NY to other parts of the nation. dugh? do you not think people will want to leave after a stupid stunt like this? for 1.5 million dollars. I could list 5 or more places starting with your office where those cuts could be made instead of cutting off a vital transportation line to the city.
by the way Rob, I voted for you and also volunteered. if you go ahead with this ridiculous plan, I WILL NEVER AGAIN support you!

People who live around the Central Ave area and work in Manhattan need the 4C. Where I live there’s no bus service that goes to the train station so my option is the bus and subway. This can easily turn a commute to Manhattan into a 2 hr event (or more), especially waiting for connections at night. Working late one night, I took the Woodlawn subway home and waited a long time for the 20 bus, which when it finally came, was so packed with people going to Empire City, that many people, including myself, could not get on and had to wait another half hour for the next bus. Don’t appreciate this after working all day and can’t even get decent bus service at night.

The 4C is a very much needed bus, especially in the evenings and night hours. That 20 bus is way too crowded.

How about the County legislators, including Astorino, downsize their salaries and benefits to save much-needed funds for the community?

This 4C line should stay in service, there are other buses that run almost empty during the day. This line is not only indispensable for people that work in Manhattan but also for us seniors that after giving half of our lives of service to the community, we are threatened with the cut of this service. Please understand that whatever is left of our lives, we try to enjoy it with affordable trips and comfortable transportation such as the Manhattan Express that gives us the opportunity to visit museums, shows, concerts in the parks, etc. I and many of my friends and neighbours are hoping that you will use everything in your power to keep this useful and necessary service to the community.
