TSTC Board and Staff Update

The Tri-State Transportation Campaign is pleased to welcome Janine Bauer to our Board of Directors. Janine is an experienced transportation and environmental attorney at Szaferman, Lakind, Blumstein, and Blader in Lawrenceville, NJ. MTR readers will remember Ms. Bauer as TSTC’s first executive director. She ran TSTC for a decade, from 1993-2003, establishing it as a leading transportation reform organization in the region. Under her direction, TSTC won a significant reduction in spending on new highways in New Jersey, and a substantial increase in bridge repair, bicycle and pedestrian funding.

In 1990, Janine won the NJ Bar Association Young Lawyer Division’s Professional Achievement Award. She is a member of Professional Women in Construction, Women’s Transportation Seminar, Society of Women Environmental Professionals, Transportation Research Board/Foundation and other trade and professional organizations. She received her J.D. with honors from Rutgers University School of Law in 1984, where she was a law review editor and symposium editor. She has also clerked for New Jersey Supreme Court Justice Alan B. Handler.

TSTC welcomes two new legal interns, Michelle Ghali and Billy Leef, both third-year law students at Seton Hall University School of Law in Newark, NJ. Michelle brings extensive judicial clerking experience and Billy will draw on his administrative law expertise to help TSTC develop legal strategies to fight the expansion of the Garden State Parkway in New Jersey.

TSTC would also like to acknowledge Becca Homa, a recent graduate of Smith College, who has been interning in TSTC’s office since September. Becca recently helped coordinate a Westchester County forum on the concept of regional bus, one of the recommendation of the Ravitch Commission.
