There is no doubt that TOD is needed on LI too. The old suburban model must begin it's phase out as soon as possible, it's time has clearly come and gone. We must begin to provide people with the opportunity to survive without the automobile, with adequate bus and train service, as well as plentiful multi-user off-road trails such as the Bethpage bikeway and the Jones Beach trail throughout LI. It will lead to less pollution and better, healthier physical condition of the overall population. Roadside bike lanes that put people in traffic are just not enough, and the inadequate bus service in Suffolk often makes biking to a destination faster than other means.
