Long Island Rail Road stations are ripe for TOD since so many consist of acres of surface parking lots. My two favorites are in downtown Hempstead which is also the home of a fairly new LI Bus intermodal facility across the street from the LIRR station and Freeport. Anyone who's ever taken the LIRR's Jones Beach service wonders why someone does not build a parking garage and then housing on the remaining property.

MTA could start the process rolling by building the decks there by freeing up space for ground floor retail and housing. Someone also needs to convince Long Islanders that six and eight story apartment buildings are not bad.
